Con te per il Paese (With you, for the Country)

“To grow spiritually also means taking on responsibility for the environment around oneself, for the wellbeing of others, for the growth of society.”

 Living in a community means opening up to the world, taking part in a social and political system able to find answers to the real needs of the citizens, from a viewpoint of service to society. The communities are experimenters and bearers of a new concrete, applied paradigm and today they are ready to play an active part in the world, to be the instigators of change and growth in society,Damanhur has founded an independent political movement: ‘Con te, per il Paese’, whose manifesto states: “To grow spiritually also means taking on responsibility for the environment around oneself, for the wellbeing of others, for the growth of society.”With this, the Damanhurians intend to take their ideals into the world of politics, to take part in its renewal, restoring to it the meaning of service on behalf of the citizens and thus being able to actively contribute to changing the world during these problematic years.

A vision that is also spiritual, besides economic and social, is what is most missing in politics today: administrators that can constantly debate with their citizens, citizens actively involved in creating a better quality of life, laws that are at the service of the citizens and the environment, instead of representing bureaucratic stumbling blocks and obstacles to socially useful activities. Con te, per il Paese applies the term “green mayor” (not meaning a Green Party member, in this case, but as an indication of a political style) to the public administrator who works in this direction.

Con Te, per il Paese is very active in the political reality of Valchiusella: the mayor and thecommittee of the Council of Vidracco are citizens of the Federation and 13 Damanhurian councillors have been elected onto other Councils of the Valley,making a total of 23 representatives. The plans put forward by Con te, per il Paese are an example of how spiritual and ethical ideals can be translated into practice for the benefit of everyone. Furthermore, all the citizens of Damanhur are part of the Italian Green Federation; Antonio Nigro, the Mayor of Vidracco, of Con te, per il Paese, is currently the Provincial President of the Green Federation of Turin, while many Damanhurians have undertaken regional co-ordination roles in Piedmont and in Tuscany and in the National Green Party Co-ordinating Committee.
